  • how to dye the fabric

First of all everybody MUST wear gloves and "junk clothes" or aprons. If the dye splashes you, it will stain your clothes as well as your hands.

Hold the prepared fabric in your hand and dip either one part of the fabric into the dye of your choice, or the whole thing if you want. The longer you hold the fabric in the dye, the darker the color.

To do another colour, dip the fabric into the colour only part of the way, then ring out the fabric very well.

Dip the undyed end in another colour, you can overlap colours if you want, just be sure to ring out the colours after each dip.

When you are finished dyeing the fabric, rinse the fabric out until the water runs clear when you squeeze the fabric. The colour will lighten quite a bit when rinsed, but if you want a darker colour, you can dye it again without re-mordanting it, or letting it dry.

When the rinsing is complete, cut the ties holding the fabric.

Lay the fabric flat on an ironing board, or a table with a thick cloth on it.

Iron the fabric while still damp, and iron the fabric on a LOW to medium setting. The colours will lighten when you iron it.
