  • how to tie circles and stars

The process for circles and stars is quite different.

1. Fold the fabric in half, horizontally

2. Fold the fabric in half again horizontally to make a square.

3. Hold your finger on the corner of the first fold and second fold creases. Fold one half of the fold partially over itself.

4. Repeat this process until the edge of the second crease is reached, turn the fabric over.

5. Repeat the process until the second half of the fabric is also folded.

6. When the folding is complete it should make a very thin triangle, and should look like the above picture.

7. The side of the folded fabric should look like a paper fan.

8. Draw a line with chalk diagonally on the fabric. (Note: we used a dark pink chalk to illustrate, but the lighter the chalk the better.)

9. Fold the fabric along the line in the same manner as before, like a paper fan. The side of the folded fabric should look like this.

10. Tie a string on the newly created (shorter) line, and tie it very tight.

11. The fabric should now look like this. You will now be able to dye a star.

To do a circle, do the same thing except omit steps 8-10 and just tie the string around the string around the folded fabric.
